I found these beauties at the antique mall near my home. Lost and forgotten in a bucket in the corner.
Inspiration struck me when I saw this on pinterest. ( Just an image- can't give appropriate credit. ) We had terrible, horrible, no good very cheap towel racks in our bathroom. One of which would fall off the wall if you looked at it the wrong way. Very self conscience our towel rack. The knobs and plates cost me $25. I had a set at home already because my husband is a "collector", meaning he sees anything old and wants to keep it. Not a bad thing since it gave me an extra knob. I guess I'll keep him.
I keep forgetting to take "during" pictures of my products and recipes. I get so excited when I am finally getting to do something creative I forget to take my time and document the process.
I cleaned all the peeling paint off the knobs with paint thinner. I found this tutorial on how to attach the knobs to the wall. I used electric tape and epoxy resin to fill the knobs. Slight hiccup at this step- my knobs were hollow- the epoxy ran down into the knob. Once a hole was drilled, it was found that the epoxy didn't stay exactly where it was needed. I just refilled the knobs with epoxy and let them dry- again. Oh and epoxy is thick. I had to push it down with a nail I found on my husband's tool bench.
After all was dry and lovely and drilled. I painted a piece of pine ($8 at Lowes) and sanded the edges for a worn look.
My husband help me measure and find the centers. He is a carpenter, and did this step very quickly. I had been trying to do it myself for about an hour, and messed up royally. He fixed it.
drum roll please...
I LOVE IT!!! Exactly what I had pictured in my little head. It goes so well with the rest of the room.
